Data Warehouse Architect & Director


We are seeking a visionary and dynamic database expert. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, driving innovation, oversee the development of cutting-edge data warehouse system. This role requires a deep understanding of database technologies, data modeling, and the integration of AI solutions to optimize and enhance data management and analytics processes.

This is a contract/freelance role for 12 months initially with extensions.

Please note that this role is on site in Amsterdam, Netherlands.


Job Requirements:

- PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Around 10 years of experience data warehousing, data engineering, and AI applications, including both academic and industrial experience, with a proven track record of technology research and innovation.
- Proficiency in database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL etc.) and data modeling tools.
- Strong understanding of AI and machine learning concepts, with experience in integrating AI applications into database systems.
- Proven ability to lead and manage technical teams, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovative solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

- Database Architecture Design: Lead the design and development of robust, scalable, and secure database architectures to support AI applications and data analytics initiatives.
- AI Integration: Collaborate with AI and machine learning teams to integrate AI technologies into database systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
- Data Modeling: Develop and maintain data models that support AI-driven insights, including the creation of entity-relationship diagrams and data flow diagrams.
- Performance Optimization: Implement performance tuning strategies for databases, ensuring efficient data retrieval and processing to support real-time AI applications.
Security and Compliance: Ensure database systems comply with security standards and regulations, implementing best practices for data protection and privacy.
- Team Leadership: Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of database engineers and administrators, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Technology Evaluation: Stay abreast of emerging database technologies and AI trends, evaluating and recommending new tools and technologies to enhance our database infrastructure.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software developers, and business stakeholders, to align database architecture with business goals and AI initiatives.
- Disaster Recovery: Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity and availability in case of system failures.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database architectures, processes, and standards to ensure knowledge sharing and continuity.
