Job Brief
We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL DBA to manage and optimize our PostgreSQL database systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases. They will ensure the availability, security, and performance of the databases while collaborating with developers and system administrators to support application needs.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
* Strong experience with PostgreSQL database administration, including installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades.
* Expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting in PostgreSQL.
* Proficiency in managing and configuring PostgreSQL replication (e.g., streaming replication, logical replication).
* In-depth knowledge of backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures for PostgreSQL databases.
* Experience with database security practices such as user roles, permissions, and encryption.
* Strong knowledge of SQL, PL/pgSQL, and database schema design.
* Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL clustering and high availability configurations.
* Ability to monitor, analyze, and optimize the performance of PostgreSQL databases.
* Familiarity with cloud-based PostgreSQL solutions (e.g., AWS RDS for PostgreSQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL).
* Knowledge of automated deployment and maintenance tools for PostgreSQL (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
* Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve database-related issues quickly and efficiently.
* Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and providing technical support.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with PostgreSQL on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
* Knowledge of other database management systems (e.g., MySQL, Oracle) is a plus.
* Experience with PostgreSQL extensions (e.g., PostGIS, pg_partman, Citus).
* Familiarity with database monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Nagios, pgAdmin).
* Experience with containerized PostgreSQL databases (e.g., Docker).
* PostgreSQL certifications or contributions to the open-source PostgreSQL community are a plus.
Responsibilities:
* Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL database systems.
* Monitor database performance and ensure high availability and disaster recovery processes.
* Perform regular database backups and implement recovery plans as required.
* Optimize database queries and resolve performance issues.
* Implement security measures to protect data, including encryption and access controls.
* Collaborate with development teams to assist in the design of database schemas and structure.
* Provide support for database-related issues and ensure database systems meet business requirements.
* Maintain up-to-date documentation on database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
* Stay current with PostgreSQL advancements and best practices, recommending improvements as needed
